Cheddar's Happy Hour at Ascutney Mountain Resort
Après-Ski Children's Event Puts a Smile on Everyone's Face
Anticipation is in the air. Nametags are worn proudly on sweaters and turtlenecks. At approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Monadnock Room at Ascutney Mountain Resort, a hush falls over the crowd that has gathered. Artists in training put their crayons down. Face painting comes to a halt. And in enters the star of the night - a tall, well-fed gray mouse named Cheddar, accompanied by his pals Blizzy the Beaver and Rocky the Raccoon. The crowd goes wild.
For kids vacationing with their parents at Ascutney Mountain Resort, Saturdays are not complete without attending Cheddar's Happy Hour and movie night. During the day, Cheddar and his pals ski and snowboard throughout the resort, handing out invitations to attend their happy hour. From 5 - 8 p.m., children ages 4-10 play games, color cool-looking pictures to take home for the "fridge," have their faces painted, "pig-out" on pizza and beverages and - the most favorite activity of all - enjoy dancing and doing the limbo to DJ music with Cheddar, Blizzy and Rocky. At 6:30 p.m., a children's movie winds down the crowd in preparation for a good night's rest.
What makes Cheddar's Happy Hour unique is the ability for parents to drop off their children in a fun, supervised environment while they enjoy a sumptuous dinner at Brown's Tavern, relax in their suite or simply enjoy a drink at the Tavern. When they get picked up at 8 PM, the children are exhausted with delight from a full, fun day of activities.
"Our focus is family oriented here at Ascutney, and sometimes parents need some time to themselves while they're vacationing," said Steve Plausteiner, owner and president of Ascutney Mountain Resort. "My wife, Susan, and I bring our two children to Cheddar's often. It's a great way for kids to make new friends, have a snack, play games and dance, while parents enjoy some private time at the Resort. By the time the kids are picked up by their parents, everyone is ready for a good night's rest!"
Cheddar's Happy Hour and movie night occurs Saturday nights from 5 PM - 8 PM in the Monadnock Room in Ascutney's village hotel, and admission is $5.00/child. On Wednesdays from 5 PM- 6:30 PM, children can attend the Midweek Music Munchie Madness, a shorter version of Cheddar's, held in the Crow's Nest in the village hotel. Admission is complimentary. Cheddar also makes cameo appearances at ski shows prior to the season as well as at special events and holiday activities on and off the mountain.
