DUCTI
Got duct tape? Tammie Thompson reviews the latest in duct tape accessories.
A couple of days after my ten-year-old son returned from summer ski camp he was rummaging around the house for some duct tape. I asked him what he needed it for. "I want to make a gear bag," he said. "A what?" I inattentively asked. An hour later he had this scrunched up ball of tape, with a few "essentials" inside. "Doesn't look very functional", I said.
It turns out all the kids were making duct tape bags, backpacks and other carrying devices. Boredom? Who knows, but the trend was set, duct tape was in again (remember when you used to tape up the top of your boots and patch your wind pants - kind of a seventies thing).

Our sample pack of DUCTI products arrived in the mail. The kids were instantly attracted to the functional wallets. Jake chose the "Classic", a traditional men's bi-fold wallet. With a steel grommet for a clip (he stole the Barhopper clip) it can attach easily to your jeans or backpack.
Jake has carries his wallet everywhere. And yet, there doesn't appear to be much wear and tear. He left it in his pants pocket one day and sure enough I washed it. It went through the washing machine and dryer - and stayed intact! I'm sold.
Hailey chose the Barhopper - not that she does much barhopping, but the Barhopper is small, fits easily into her purse or jeans pocket. It's also a great size for skiing or snowboarding. It's flat, can hold an ID card (think lost children, emergency rooms, etc.) and some cash. Plus you can clip it to the inside of a pocket or jacket with the cool clip.
I have to admit I liked the Chaparral. I'm not a big purse fan, and I can pretend to be a bit trendy when I'm not on mom duty. The Chaparral is slim, stylish and functional. The brochure says it's for the hip and "with-it" crowd. I can always try.
While wallets and purses may not be on your list of "have-to-haves" for kids, you can bet they'll want one. Prices are reasonable. Suggested retail runs from $15 - $25.
