Rippin' Rider Review: Obermeyer Girls Outerwear
Hailey reviews the Preschool Girl's ALT 2 Waverider jacket, All Sport Overall and Daffy Fleece Pullover
When the outfit arrived, I thought, "how will we ever keep this ice-blue jacket and pants clean?" My five-year-old Hailey thought, "Wow it's a snowboard jacket I can wear skiing!"
Hailey immediately loved the color (robin egg), steering clear of anything pink in favor of "trendy and cool" colors. I thought it was just feminine enough for my little girl, but without the "babyish" look that five-year-olds want to avoid.
Functionality: The Obermeyer outfit is extremely functional. The dropped back hem was great to keep snow and the cold away from the waist. Paired with the overalls, Hailey stayed warm and dry. The jacket's draw cord cinched tight enough for her skinny frame. Same goes for the draw cord on the overalls, which was like having a custom fit. Hailey especially liked the articulated knees, great for sledding and other snowplay positions. On cold days Hailey wore the Daffy Fleece pullover for added warmth.
How is it made? Obermeyer products can stand the test of time. The outfit stood up over the season with several washings. And still looks like new! All seams were double stitched - and seam sealed to keep the water out. The big plus: the outfit, no matter how dirty it got (think mud, grease, hot chocolate, ketchup, etc.) it washed out like new! Amazing! Mid-season we let out the "I Grow" hems, giving Hailey another couple of inches to work with.
Where did you use it? Hailey is a member of the Mighty Mites at Squaw Valley. She skied every weekend, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and all holidays. That's lots of time testing the Obermeyer outfit. The outfit held up well on the racecourse as Hailey got three top ten finishes for the season.
Cool Factor: For a five-year-old Hailey is pretty picky about 'cool'. The Waverider jacket stood up to her criteria. Feminine trim, dropped hemline, and a boarder look, plus a very pretty (mom) rad (Hailey) color made it a top choice on ski days. Plus lots of the other Mighty Mites wondered where they could get one too!
