Junior Cross Country/Nordic/Snowshoe Gear for 2002/2003
Yahoo! Manufacturers are addressing the kid's market for cross country and snowshoeing with improved products and new designs. Here's a recap of what's up for this season.
Cross Country/Nordic Gear:
Fischer: Fischer moves into a double hour-glass shape with its Junior Cruiser model. The undulating shape of the ski allows greater stability, better grip and good glide. The Junior SCS is a skate-cut ski. There is also a new racing boot for juniors, called the Junior RCS.
Peltonen: The Supra Skate and Infra Classic LW combine the performance of race skis, but are down scaled to junior sizes. Peltonen's race base and Aero-cell core offer World Cup performance to aspiring young skiers.
Rossignol: For young skaters, Rossignol has the X-ium Skating Jr. and for those who prefer the classical technique the X-ium Classic Jr. Another racing ski is the Delta Universal Jr. In boots, the Comp Jr. line is for racers, while the X Tour Venture AR Jr. and X1 Jr. fill other boots needs for juniors.
Atlas: All Atlas Junior shoes have a secure binding system. These dual-cleat snowshoes are high-performance snowshoes, sized down for children who weigh less than 80 pounds.
Redfeather: Redfeather's Youth model's V-tail design allows kids to walk with a natural stride without losing balance. The Youth snowshoe bindings are easy to use and stay snug. The Snowpaw is Redfeather's children's snowshoe.
Salomon: Small-sized Access'ER snowshoes come with rubber straps to make them adaptable for youths and teens.
Tubbs: Tubbs' Discovery Jr. snowshoe complements the pint-sized Tubbscout model and enables the seven- to 10-year-old age-group to stride along with their parents. Designed to accommodate up to 80 pounds, the Discovery Jr. features a supportive, mitten-friendly binding system that fits an array of winter footwear, plus an aluminum toe crampon for added grip and security underfoot. The lightweight aluminum frame design, modeled after adult snowshoes, is maintenance free, easy to use and perfect for packed trails.
The Tubbscout is made of molded Bayflex polyurethane and features easy-to-use supportive bindings that are mitten-friendly. The binding accommodates a wide variety of boys' and girls' boot styles and sizes from child size six to youth size two. The lightweight Tubbscout also has many of the performance features designed into Tubbs' adult models and are for kids who weigh less than 65 pounds.
Yuba: Yuba has down-scaled production and only makes its T-Rex kids snowshoes. The green, molded plastic T-Rex shoe leaves a dinosaur print in the snow and is designed for kids up to 50 pounds. The bindings on the T-Rex can accommodate any kind of footwear.
