Burton:
Using its team of younger testers, Burton has revamped the Punch series to deliver
all-around freestyle performance for smaller riders. These are not scaled-down
versions of adult boards. The flex, shape and even graphics are all designed by
and for younger riders. Versatile, the Punch goes from park to pipe to all-mountain
freeriding, delivering advanced freestyle performance for smaller, lighter riders.
Included in the line is the Shaun White (who is 14) signature model, the Punch
143.
When the snow melts at the end of the season, younger
riders trade their snowboards for skateboards. For these
riders, the skate-shoe influence of the Freestyle Youth
and the Freestyle Youth SI is the perfect boot for
taking skate tricks onto snow. Burton's Command SI
offers the step-in system, easing the learning process
while giving full soft-system, freestyle performance.
K2 Snowboards: K2 has come up with two boards to
accommodate kids of all riding abilities. The Mighty Eldo
is made for the little tykes getting started and the Mini
Zep is for the groms that are already rippin'. The Mighty
Eldo has a twintip design and softer flex for the kids who
are bouncing from mogul to mogul. Like its adult
counterpart the Zeppelin, the Mini Zep freestyle board
has a progressive sidecut.
The Striker Jr. and the Sector Jr. are K2's answer to
dream boots for kids: warm and comfortable with a
custom fit (both feature a removable liner that is
heat-moldable). The Sector Jr. is easy to lace with a
waterproof construction and also features an adjustable
footbed system that allows the boot to grow up to two
full sizes. The Striker Jr. can be used with strap bindings
and the Sector Jr. is compatible with K2's step-in
Clicker binding.
The K2 V-2 Plasma binding
is the perfect match with the Striker Jr. With kids in mind, K2 made proportionally
smaller highbacks for heelside support and comfortable, molded, quick-adjust foam
straps with user friendly, lift-release ratchet buckles. The bindings feature
a 3-point strap system and adjustable forward lean.
Lamar: Lamar introduces
three junior board models. The Super-X, Commando and Primary boards all feature
full, wood-core construction and unique graphic designs. Each board is designed
and tuned specifically for junior riders, providing a responsive and controlled
riding experience.
The Lamar MX1 bindings feature an atomically
contoured baseplate and highback, providing maximum
control, comfort and fit. The MX1 is size scaled and flex
tuned specifically for junior riders and is designed to be
simple and easy to use without sacrificing fit or
performance.
The versatile AKA Jr. boot has been redesigned and
restyled. A built-in liner and multi directional rubber
outer sole provide a controlled and comfortable fit. The
AKA features aggressive skate styling.
Limited: Limited offers the new Defender and Element
boards. Both feature wood core construction and are
built to give the young rider total control.
Limited's LT1 strap binding features a baseplate and
highback shaped to fit young feet and calves. The
Focus Jr. boot is redesigned and restyled and sports a
built-in liner and multi directional rubber outer sole.
Ride:
The Lowride is built for smaller children, designed to be fun to ride and easy
to control. Complementing the Lowride is the Preston LS Micro binding. The Preston
base is anatomically shaped from aircraft-grade aluminum for extra stability and
support. Cushy "bubble ankle pads" provide relief to the instep for all-day comfort.
The Base Boot is a mix of performance and flexibility.
Forward and lateral flex provide enough support to take
first-timers and intermediates all over the mountain. The
anatomically shaped tongue features latex padding that
is easy on youngsters' shins.
Salomon: Salomon gets on board with the Team series
of snowboards for kids. Team series boards are built with
an aspen wood core and a P-Tex 900 graphite base.
Sims: This year's kids boards have been renamed. The
FSR 250 stands for freestyle/freeride, and is designed
to give the younger rider the freedom to ride the whole
mountain with confidence. Sims' junior binding was
redesigned with a sturdier nylon baseplate and the
addition of aluminum, self-ratchet buckles. New for Sims
this winter are boots, with junior boots designated the
400 Series, geared to the entry-level rider.
