Christmas in Vermont… Woodstock Inn for Old Traditions
By Tammie
Thompson
When
I was a kid, we owned an old farmhouse with a bunch of other snow loving families.
It was located in Plymouth Union, just down the road from Woodstock, Vermont.
Most days we would pack the ski gear and head towards Killington, but on rare
occasions we would stash the gear in the barn, get gussied up and head up the
hill for a night out at the Woodstock Inn.
Just like a postcard, Woodstock
depicts New England charm. White houses with twinkling lights, many with white
candles in the windows and trees adorned with heirloom ornaments. I can only explain
it with an "ahhh - to be home again".
Our huge group would gather
around the fireplace for an annual photo. We would head to the dining room for
an exquisite meal, then wander the grounds feeling jealous of the guests who would
settle in for an evening around the piano singing Christmas carols. Classic holiday
magic.
Years later, the Woodstock
Inn celebrates over 200 years of welcoming guests to their establishment with
a variety of family packages. The Inn's Christmas from Vermont package best captures
the essence of Christmas. In addition to a trip to a nearby Christmas tree farm
to choose and cut a tree for home, guests enjoy two night's accommodations, two
country breakfasts, one
dinner and a collectible figurine.
If you don't want to leave
home until after the holidays, you can still take advantage of the charm of the
Woodstock Inn with one of their very affordable family packages. Ski Vermont Free
- will get you free skiing at Suicide Six and the Woodstock Ski Touring Center,
free rental equipment, and free transportation to the ski areas - when you stay
midweek. Rates start at $165 per night.
Another good one is the
Family Ski Week package offered on select weeks throughout the season. Three nights
lodging, lift tickets, lessons, breakfast and transportation for stays Thursday
through Saturdays. The best part is that they will give you a connecting room
for up to four kids. Yahoo! Call 800-448-7900 or visit their website for details.
