Family Fun at Homewood; photo courtesy Homewood KidzView Located at Homewood’s South Lodge, the Snow Rangers Academy Center to a child equates to setting a golf fanatic free at Pebble Beach. Snow Ranger day campers are treated not only to unique on-snow instruction, but rather an overall active-day experience. Colorful flags, designated Snow Ranger surface lifts (called the Sun Kid), and life-sized deer, bears, and other animals indigenous to Tahoe dot the Snow Rangers ski trail (called Critter Canyon), and is the ultimate favorite. An on-snow tubing carousel offers a fun ride for small children while progressing kids hang on for a ski tow. Obstacle courses with decorated arches and race gates give kids a fun way to apply the skills learned during instruction. Indoor activities include games, fuzeball, and even a kid-sized rock climbing wall.

For Sanity's Sake: After parents drop the kids off at the Snow Rangers Academy, it’s time for the big kids to play! For starters, here’s nothing like the view from Homewood Mountain Resort. Everyone – from new skiers to seasoned snowboarders – stops to marvel at the azure perfection of Tahoe’s great mirror atop Madden Triple Chair. As the pride and center of the town of Homewood, California, Homewood Mountain Resort sits a snowball’s throw from the Lake’s west shore.

KidzPoints: Critter Canyon is surely where you’ll find all the action! There’s always fun activities happening on this ski trail!

Where to Ski: Guests who’ve known and loved the 1260-acre mountain for decades now eagerly the arrival of the brand new Doppelmayr high speed detachable quad chair lift, slated to open this winter. Replacing what is known as The Quad Chair, the new Express Quad will transport skiers and riders from mid mountain to the summit in more than triple the speed as its predecessor. The Express Quad accesses some of Homewood’s most varied terrain ranging from impeccably groomed vista cruisers for beginners, high-speed groomers for intermediates with an “inner-racer”, and gladed powder runs for experts in search of adventure.

Where to Board: Hobbit land is advanced powder bowl terrain at Homewood Mountain Resort, and a snowboarder’s dream-come-true! Floaty powder turns and a consistent downhill pitch – all the way to the base – give riders a reason to don that famous Homewood smile.

Homewood Ski School; photo courtesy Homewood Special Programs: Like skiing, children’s instruction has evolved through the decades and the Snow Rangers Academy offers children ages 4 to 12 the latest instruction method. The X Based (short for Experience Based) Learning System incorporates learning terms and processes from sports with which a specific child is proficient and applies them to skiing. “For example, a child might be a great soccer player; our instructors would then use terms and concepts from soccer to teach balance, weight shift, or body positioning and apply them to his or her ski lesson. It’s great because that child experiences a customized ski lesson in a fun, understandable way,” Mattson explains.

Child Care: No child care facilities available.

Good Groceries: There is a must-do for every guest who visits Homewood,” said Kent Hoopingarner, General Manager and COO at Homewood Mountain Resort. “Everyone must try Homewood’s barbeque. It’s unlike any lunch at the Lake, and it is phenomenal,” he added. Homewood’s weekly barbecue prepares two specialty plates that have become a winter signature. Whole top sirloin barbecued over an oak fire is sliced to order and served with fresh salad, beans and salsa and toasted bread; or, opt for beer-basted, barbequed chicken. "We’ve had regular winter guests stop by in the summer hoping to find the barbecue," said Chef Rene Sifuentez, Homewood Mountain Resort Executive Chef. "That’s how you know a dish tastes great," he added.
