Friendly Lift Ticket Programs
By Tammie Thompson
Family skiing just got easier.
And less expensive too. Resorts have finally responded to decreased skier numbers
and have embraced the family, non-skiers and all. There are more kid friendly
services than ever before. And many resorts around the country are getting more innovative
with programs and on hill amenities. Finally!
The biggest news for parents is
the shared lift ticket. Now two parents can take turns with the little one(s)
while the other skis. Of course some of us have been doing that for years, all
the while slinking around and switching a vest or oversized jacket. Now it's legal!
And encouraged!
I spent a day at Alpine
Meadows with my family. My husband took off with our 6-year-old and I settled
in with our two-year-old in the Parent Lounge. Sectioned off from the main lodge,
this romper room features a jungle gym, diaper changing area and plenty of couches for parents to stretch out in. Hailey loved
it. She could look out the window at the ski school area, run, socialize with
other toddlers and give Mom a break. There are even pint sized picnic tables,
which make lunch much more enjoyable. Water was also readily available, great
attention to detail! With the interchangeable ticket we were able to do a switch
at lunchtime and my husband was on toddler duty while I got to ski Hot Wheels
Gully over and over and over again. Hurray for Alpine for recognizing the parent!
Visit Alpine's Kidz n'Snow page for details.
Diamond Peak, NV, offers a Family Special which includes one adult ticket and one child ticket for $58. You can add on extra adults or children for a reduced rate. See Diamond Peak's KidzResort review for more details on resorts across the country.
Other resorts around Lake Tahoe that offer the parent shared ticket include Boreal, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe. Check our KidzResort section for more details on resorts across the country.
