TIPS FOR SHOPPING THE TENT SALES
By Tammie Thompson
It's a hundred degrees. The parking lot's fresh tar is blistering under the heat. What better time to shop for bargains on skis, snowboards and other winter gear?
Shop til you drop, but a little bit of homework will help keep your budget in check and make for season long successes.
Know what you need before you go:
Pull out all the jackets, gloves, goggles, boots - everything winter related.
Make a checklist of exactly what you need.
Research big purchases before the sale:
Check out KidznSnow articles on gear trends, what's new and more.
Use the Internet to find the best ski or board for your child.
Visit a specialty shop before the sale. Talk to the sales people about various options.
Beware the sale frenzy:
Most shops are getting rid of last season's inventory. This may or may not be an issue. If you are looking for the latest technology, you probably won't find it on sale. If you don't care and staying within your budget is important, buying last year's gear is the way to go. Just because something is marked half off doesn't make it a good deal. Be sure the fit, color, etc., is what you want. Online deals abound throughout the season - so patience can work for you.
Children's sizing dilemmas:
What may fit in September may not fit in January. If buying boots, size up GENTLY, as a sloppy boot won't help when skiing or riding.
Best buys:
Socks
Goggles
Helmets
Ski poles
Long underwear
Turtlenecks
Insulated snow pants
Ski or snowboard packages (boots, bindings & board)
Happy shopping!
